Over the years, the Baldini has grown with two souls and today is both public reading library, offering all citizens different possibilities of choice among its vast book heritage consisting of about 100,000 volumes; is a conservation institution with its own holdings or archives. The reasons that move you to a place are many, sometimes just thought, other times instead you need to find a space that welcomes you, that opens your mind, where you can be alone but also in company. A place to meet people like you, are looking for a word, a look, another thought.
A day in the library among its rooms and sections
Entrance
You can then decide to walk through the door of the library and get curious about the temporary exhibitions that the cultural institutes organize and host, or come across the gallery, in the market of books already read made by ABS | Amici Biblioteca Santarcangelo.
If instead reading, knowledge or work take you to the library, we welcome you to the reference where you will find the operators and librarians available to give you all the useful information to access the services and find out how to use the Library Network of Romagna and San Marino. There is also our bookshop.
First Floor
Climb the stairs, original sign of the old civil hospital, or take the elevator. On the first floor you will find besides the study rooms for young people and the narrative gallery dedicated to adults, the video library, the DVD room and the world dedicated to all children.
If you want to meet other parents and spend a few hours with your children (0-6 years) go to the room World of children, and while you know other parents, or deepen some topics on the themes of parenting; children read books suitable for their age, placed on low shelves for easy access, and play on carpets in the reading house.
If they are older, the “Children and Young People Room” is available to them with more than six thousand books on open shelves: narrative divided by age groups (7-10, 11-14 and 14 years) and non-fiction books, ranging from history to geography, science to technology, sports. They can browse comics, interculture and scout world sections, select DVDs, and use three computer stations with internet access (subject to prior approval) with a print service for a fee.
In the newspaper library, instead you can choose to browse local newspapers, weekly and national magazines, numerous specialized periodicals on different topics from health to sport, or delve into food culture, travel and dialect poetry, or choose in the room audiovideo film, docufilm, TV series, language courses and audiobooks.
Second Floor
Keep going up the stairs to the study rooms. This is the place of concentration and silence, where you will find the essay sections, with a vast collection of books divided by topic ranging from philosophy to religion, literature to history. You can learn about the history of our Romagna territory or discover the special section dedicated to Santarcangelo (Doc Santar). The theatre hall collects both texts, collections of plays and a DVD section dedicated to the subject.
Remember before leaving to visit the beautiful library Paolo Toschi of the Ethnographic Museum that since 2014 we curate in collaboration with museums (MET and MUSAS) specialized in demo-ethno-anthropology. There are more than 6,000 selected volumes on anthropology, ethnology and history; on prose and fiction about stories, myths, legends and fairy tales; on ballads, songs, games, music and poetry.
