Biographical and Bibliographical Note. Antonio Baldini (Rome, October 10, 1889 – November 6, 1962) began contributing to the journal La Voce in 1912. After serving in World War I, he became one of the leading figures of La Ronda. He also contributed to La Tribuna and Corriere della Sera, and from 1931 was the long-time editor of Nuova Antologia. His writing focused on himself, his travels, friends, and favorite authors, approached with measured, ironic contemplation.
Following his debut with Pazienze e impazienze di maestro Pastoso (1914), Baldini published Umori di gioventù and Salti di gomitolo in 1920, and his most well-known work, Michelaccio, in 1924. Other notable titles include Amici allo spiedo (1932), Italia di Bonincontro (1940), and Il sor Pietro, Cosimo Papareschi e Tuttaditutti (1941).
First Donation (1972). The Antonio Baldini Collection at the Santarcangelo Public Library was established in 1972, following a substantial donation by his daughter, Barbara Baldini, to the town of Santarcangelo, the place of origin of the Baldini family. The collection includes books, manuscripts, newspaper clippings, print proofs, drawings, photographs, prints, and maps.
